چکیده

The construction sector is under growing pressure to increase productivity and improve quality, most notably in reports by Latham (1994) and Egan (1998). A major problem for construction companies is the lack of project predictability. One method of increasing predictability and delivering increased customer value is through the systematic management of construction processes. However, the industry has no methodological mechanism to assess process capability and prioritise process improvements. Standardised Process Improvement for Construction Enterprises (SPICE) is a research project that is attempting to develop a step-wise process improvement framework for the construction industry, utilising experience from the software industry, and in particular the Capability Maturity Model (CMM), which has resulted in significant productivity improvements in the software industry. This paper introduces SPICE concepts and presents the results from two case studies conducted on design and build projects. These studies have provided further insight into the relevance and accuracy of the framework, as well as its value for the construction sector.

Change Management and Change Process Model for the Iranian Construction Industry

Changes are inevitable in construction projects. They could lead to disruptive impacts on the quality, schedule and budget of projects. Identifying changes and anticipating their consequences can help project teams mitigate these negative impacts. As a result, a change process model has been defined to improve this procedure. At first the present paper the defines some of the key terms in this ...

Standardised Process Improvement for Construction Enterprises

This paper describes the current status of the SPICE research project that is investigating the transfer of best practice from the I.T. industry to the construction industry. The research focuses specifically on the improvement of business processes and in particular the use of the Capability Maturity Model (CMM). This model provides an evolutionary step-wise framework for process improvement a...

Time Prediction Using a Neuro-Fuzzy Model for Projects in the Construction Industry

This paper presents a prediction model based on a new neuro-fuzzy algorithm for estimating time in construction projects. The output of the proposed prediction model, which is employed based on a locally linear neuro-fuzzy (LLNF) model, is useful for assessing a project status at different time horizons. Being trained by a locally linear model tree (LOLIMOT) learning algorithm, the model is int...
